The Witherbees is a band dedicated to exploring songs we love, deconstructing them and then putting them back together. We plan to release our first record this summer.
Some of us in the band are long-time devotees to the music of Ryan Adams and were crushed to hear the truth of his controlling and manipulative actions as an artist in a position of power. We recorded this song well before the NY Times article was published in late February of 2019 and fully intended to include it on our upcoming full-length LP.
We want to share this music with you but want to create something positive out of the wreckage that makes us reconsider this song in particular. As mentioned above, all proceeds from this "single" (if you must), will be donated to charities supporting women, trans, and non-binary people in their pursuit of art and music.

Mike Lorenz's newest band, the Witherbees, is dedicated to a diverse interpretation of the "jazz canon" for the 21st century. If you’ve heard Mike play his weekly gig at Tired Hands (Ardmore, PA), you know that his idea of “jazz repertoire” is vast and highly interpretive. This group, featuring up-and-coming vocalist/violist/songwriter Jacqui Armbruster, digs deep into that mindset, pulling their repertoire from such diverse places at Herbie Mann, Sonny Sharrock, Paul McCartney, Ryan Adams, Wilco, and the Magnetic Fields as well as some new original music (and that’s just the start). Their approach is open, interactive, and soulful. The music is jazz/folk music but with detours to Sonic Youth, Sonny Sharrock, and some other places. The group plans to release their first album in the summer of 2019.
